Update: We won an award! From Placemaking Aotearoa, the Pitt Street Pocket Park won a Kumara Award in the ‘Beyond the Brief’ category. "For activating the Karangahape Station construction edge into a vibrant place that showcases the vast talents in the community, supports local businesses and builds connections that uplift both people and place."

Our clients over at Link Alliance wanted to create an area for the Karangahape Road community while they build the new underground train stations. Pocket Park was our placemaking response to that request. We were an integral part to the original design and continue to add upgrades such as bespoke lighting as required.

We commissioned local artist Shelley Botticelli to design and paint the psychedelic artwork and signage on the backdrop, the stage floor, the planter boxes (reused rubbish bins) and the block seating (barriers required for traffic management).

The Pitt Street Pocket Park is now used monthly by the Karangahape Road Business Association for the First Thursday's events, and has a buskers licence so the community can take full advantage of what once was an empty corner of a construction site. Plus, if you walk past late on a Friday night, you'll never know what you'll see...
